Pilot whose plane crashed into home dies

August 3, 2013 (INDIANAPOLIS) -- The pilot of the plane that crashed into a Columbus home last month has died.

Wishard Hospital spokesman Jordan Anderson told The Associated Press on Saturday morning that Gerald H. Clayton of Columbus died at the Indianapolis hospital. Anderson was not authorized to say at what time Clayton died.

The 81-year-old had been in serious condition at the hospital's burn unit after the July 25 crash, which happened in a densely populated neighborhood about a mile from the Columbus Municipal Airport. Passenger Dennis King suffered less serious burns.

Clayton had built the two-seat Glastar GS-1 plane and had taken it out to test recent repairs on the day of the crash.

Columbus is about 40 miles south of Indianapolis.
