August 9, 2013 (FORT WAYNE, Ind.) -- Northern Indiana police say a 21-month-old boy who accidentally stepped on a Great Dane's paw was seriously injured when the dog lunged and mauled his face.
The Journal Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1cjAvSQ ) the Kosciusko County child was airlifted Thursday evening to a Fort Wayne hospital. The county sheriff's department says the boy is listed in serious condition.
Police say the toddler suffered a large laceration on his forehead and face in the attack.
The boy's mother told officers her son was petting the 8-year-old dog when he inadvertently stepped on its paw, prompting the dog to turn around and bite him.
