August 10, 2013 (MICHIGAN CITY, Ind.) -- Gov. Mike Pence is expected to attend an event in Michigan City later this month honoring those involved in rescuing a 6-year-old boy who became trapped under 11 feet of sand when a section of dune collapsed.
The News-Dispatch of Michigan City reports the family of Nathan Woessner of Sterling, Ill., has been invited to the Aug. 28 event. Nathan was rescued after being buried for more than three hours on July 12 in a dune called Mount Baldy at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
Nathan was released last month from La Rabida Children's Hospital. Doctors said he underwent physical, occupational and speech therapy. He's scheduled to return for more rehabilitation.
On Monday, the Michigan City Fire Department honored firefighters involved in the rescue.
