Trash bag puppy has new leash on life

Thursday, October 03, 2013

A puppy that was near death when it was rescued from a Muncie trash container in February is thriving in its new home with the man who saved it.

The puppy was 6 weeks old when Michael Upchurch heard its faint cries while working his trash route. He pulled out the frozen 3-pound puppy and warmed it up before taking it to a veterinary clinic.

The dog became a local celebrity and was featured in USA Today and on CNN. It even has its own Facebook page with more than 4,500 likes.

The Star Press reports the dog now weighs about 23 pounds and has been named Garby.

Upchurch says he can't imagine life without the puppy.
