October 12, 2013 (VALPARAISPO, Ind.) -- Northern Indiana police say a 30-year-old woman died at the Porter County Jail shortly after she was taken into custody.
Porter County police spokesman Sgt. Larry LaFlower says the Ogden Dunes woman died early Saturday at a local hospital. Her name was being withheld, pending notification of relatives.
LaFlower tells The Times of Munster the woman arrived at the jail about 10:15 p.m. Friday following her arrest on a warrant. She was placed in a padded cell after being deemed a threat to herself and others.
About two hours later, a jail officer found the woman unresponsive with shallow breathing and she was later pronounced dead at Porter Regional Hospital.
LaFlower said an autopsy and toxicology testing were scheduled to be performed on the woman's body.
