The path in Marquette Park is empty now. But it will soon be filled with runners participating in the marathon, half-marathon and 5k race. Organizers say it will start in the park along the lakeshore and will run through several Duneland areas.
"We know that there are running enthusiasts all over northwest Indiana, and we wanted to give them an opportunity to participate," said Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson.
This marathon is also a qualifier for the Boston Marathon. Each finisher will get a medal. Organizers say 200 people have registered for the event so far.
