Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra donation drop leads to $1.8M deficit
Friday, October 04, 2013
October 4, 2013 (MILWAUKEE) -- The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra is looking at ways to rely less on donations after posting a $1.8 million deficit last fiscal year.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that's largely due to a drop in donations. The orchestra was able to avoid shortfalls during the previous two fiscal years because it received large gifts near the end of those years.
The orchestra's fiscal year ends Aug. 31.
MSO board chairman Douglas M. Hagerman says the orchestra needs to cut costs and attract more people to boost revenue.
