July 8, 2013 (WLS) -- A surfer in Australia survives a close encounter with a whale, and it's all captured on cell phone video.
It happened when the whale and her calf swam close to a group of surfers.
The 50-ton whale then flipped her tail and hit two surfers.
One of the surfers was knocked unconscious and nearly drowned.
The surfer is recovering at the hospital and says he will be okay.
