Park assault takes political turn

Friday, March 16, 2007

A fight at a North Side park has become an issue in an aldermanic runoff race.

Edward White and his wife, Angelique Denwiddie, were attacked by a group of youths on Tuesday night after coming to the aid of a girl who was being assaulted by another girl. Four suspects were arrested and charged in the case.

Supporters of Naisy Dolar, who is running for alderman in the 50th Ward where the attack took place, accused the incumbent alderman, Alderman Bernard Stone, of not taking crime seriously in the area.

"What kind of crime is it going to take before Alderman Stone takes this even more seriously, and looks at it as a comprehensive problem," said Naisy Dolar.

"She would have you believe crime is rampant. It is not rampant. It's just to the contrary," said Ald. Stone.

Police promised to step up foot patrols in the park.
