Alvarez new pres. of bar association

June 18, 2009 (WLS) -- Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez is the first sitting state's attorney to lead the Chicago Bar association.

She was sworn in on Thursday as president at the group's annual meeting.

Alvarez is also the organization's first Hispanic female president. She has been an active member for many years and most recently served as first vice president.

The Chicago Bar Association has more than 22-thousand members throughout Illinois.
