Tresser enters race for board president

Saturday, October 17, 2009

A founder of No Games Chicago, the group that fought to keep Chicago from hosting the 2016 Summer Olympics, is running for Cook County Board president.

Tom Tresser made the announcement Saturday and promised a reformed, transparent, and independent county government. He asked supporters to circulate petitions so he can be listed on the ballot.

If elected, he vowed to end what he called "machine government."

"The days of the county dispensing jobs, contracts and cash to keep that machine going are over. And I can also promise you an accounting from top to bottom. Every aspect of the county's government will be scrutinized," Tresser said.

Tresser, a teacher and former theater producer, wants to be the Green Party nominee.
