'Dock' Walls announces run for governor

Saturday, October 24, 2009

A former aide to late Chicago Mayor Harold Washington entered the race for governor officially Saturday.

"We want someone new. We want someone different. We want a clean break from the past," said William "Dock" Walls, who is a Democrat.

Walls held up what he says were tens of thousands of signatures on his petitions as he made the announcement Saturday. Supporters cheered.

He called two other Democratic candidates, current Gov. Pat Quinn and Comptroller Dan Hynes, status quo politicians who represent the past.

Walls promised a high-tech, environmentally friendly and pro-jobs administration that won't raise taxes.
