The Green Bay Packers will definitely retire Brett Favre's No. 4.

It just won't happen during the upcoming season.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy made it clear that reconciling with the quarterback is important to the franchise. The first step came in February, when Favre appeared with his successor, Aaron Rodgers, on stage at the NFL Honors ceremony.

Though Murphy said he doesn't anticipate retiring Favre's No. 4 jersey this season, he didn't rule out Favre making an appearance at Lambeau Field, perhaps as an honorary captain or as part of the alumni weekend festivities.

Favre led the Packers to the Super Bowl title following the 1996 season. But he had a bitter falling out with the team after coming out of retirement in 2008.
