Florida St. AD Spetman signs 1-year extension

Florida State Seminoles athletics director Randy Spetman has signed a one-year contract extension to remain at the school through Feb. 14, 2014.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State athletic director Randy Spetman has signed a one-year contract extension to remain at the school through Feb. 14, 2014.

Spetman, whose contract was set to expire in less than six months, has overseen the transition of the football program from longtime coach Bobby Bowden to Jimbo Fisher in 2010 and presided over an athletic department that has finished in the top 10 in the Directors' Cup standings in each of the past three years.

Spetman will earn a base salary of $350,000 throughout the term of the extension, the same annual salary he receives under his current contract, but he qualifies for bonuses of up to $200,000 should the Seminoles finish atop next year's Directors' Cup standings.

Other bonuses of up to $130,000 are based on graduation rates and cumulative GPA scores.

Spetman, who was hired in 2008, and university president Eric Barron signed the agreement Aug. 8, though a formal announcement was not made at the time.

Spetman was addressing a booster club in South Carolina on Wednesday and was not immediately available for comment.
