PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Penguins have hired longtime NHL head coach Jacques Martin to serve as an assistant under Dan Bylsma.
The 60-year-old Martin has spent 17 seasons as a head coach, compiling a 613-481-119 record during stints with St. Louis, Ottawa, Florida and Montreal. His 613 wins rank 10th in NHL history. He joins a staff that includes Tony Granato and Todd Reirden. Martin last coached with the Canadiens during the 2011-12 season. Most recently he worked as a television analyst.
Martin won the Jack Adams Award as the Coach of the Year in 1999 when he led the Senators to a 44-23-15 record and the franchise's first-ever division title.
General manager Ray Shero called Martin a "tremendous addition" who will give the team a unique perspective going forward.
