March 4, 2013 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- The Red Cross is launching a new, free app that is like having a weather radio in your pocket and your own personal severe weather alert.
The app includes a high- pitched siren and alert that signals when a tornado warning has been issued in your area -- even if the app is closed.
There is also an all-clear alert to let you know when the danger has passed.
The app is available in English or Spanish for iPhone, iPad and Android users.
The app can also help you come up with an evacuation plan.
To get the app, just search "tornado" on your phone and it should come right up.
