Thousands of Chicago-area dog lovers will be hightailing it to the 12th Annual Bark in the Park on Saturday, May 6, beginning at 9 a.m. at Chicago's Montrose Harbor (4400 north at the lake, east of Lake Shore Drive in Lincoln Park).
Bark in the Park is a tradition created to raise awareness and funds for the many programs and services of The Anti-Cruelty Society.
3,500 supporters, most joined by their canine companions, are expected to congregate with ABC 7 Chicago emcees Roz Varon and Bart Shore at this year's event. In addition to the 3.2 mile (5K) walk, the morning's festivities include obstacle courses, Pet Intuitive Denise Zak, Pet Masseuse Pam Kuhn, Caricature Artist Alberto Ugarte, agility training demonstrations, a dog/owner look-alike contest, and a canine fashion parade.
Additional specials include an arts and education tent with fun-filled family activities, free snacks for the walkers, and goodies for the dogs. Walkers can also enjoy free product samples from our sponsors' tents and take a souvenir photograph with the family pet. Co-sponsored by PetSmart and Hill's Science Diet, Bark in the Park is also made possible by the generosity of dozens of corporate sponsors and donors.
For a glimpse of last year's walk, along with registration and pledge forms, prospective participants are invited to visit www.barkinthepark.org. For more information, guests can call the Bark in the Park hotline at 312.329.8726. Advance on-line registration is available until noon on Thursday May 4th and is $25 for adults and $20 for children 12 and under. Walkers may also register in person on event day, beginning at 7am at Montrose Harbor. Registration increases to $30 for adults and $25 for children 12 and under. Children under 3 are free.
Home to the Chicago area's oldest and largest low-cost spay/neuter clinic, The Anti-Cruelty Society helps more than 50,000 animals and animal lovers every year through its programs and services. Since 1999 (our second century of caring), The Anti-Cruelty Society has placed more than 40,000 animals in loving homes, spayed or neutered more than 61,000 animals and presented humane messages to over 225,000 school-aged children and community groups.
