Chicago's John G. Shedd Aquarium has teamed up with Chicago restaurants to encourage diners to make smart seafood selections. Certain types of seafood are better environmental choices than others because the method of catching or farming them assures the long-term survival of the ocean and its inhabitants. Shedd's Right Bite program aims to educate consumers about seafood that is not only good to eat but good for our oceans, too.
Shedd has organized a series of "Right Bite Dinners" which feature sustainable seafood events at five of the Chicago area's leading restaurants. A specialty menu is created by each restaurant's chef and will include delectable seafood appetizers followed by dinner entrees chosen from Shedd's Right Bite seafood cards, which list popular seafood by its environmental impact. During dessert, Shedd staffers speak on a variety of topics -- either seafood or animal related.
"It is important to remember when ordering seafood at a restaurant or buying seafood to prepare at home, that our smart choices make a difference for healthy oceans," says Ted Cizma, executive chef of Soundings at Shedd Aquarium. "Shedd Aquarium's Right Bite Dinner Series provides our guests with the information to make these choices, while enjoying dinner at some of Chicago's most well-renowned restaurants."
The final dinner of the fall season will be tonight at Naha in Chicago. To register, please call 312/692-3123. The Auxiliary Society of Shedd Aquarium hosts the Shedd Aquarium's Right Bite Dinner Series.
