December 29, 2006 -- Ray Silkman has been touted one of the best saxmen in the business, regularly performing in sold out auditoriums and festivals in Chicago and across the Midwest. With annual appearances with The Greatest Of All Time, Muhammad Ali, and repeat performances before tens of thousands at Chicago's United Center, Rosemont Convention Center, and Poplar Creek, Ray Silkman is one of the most sought after and celebrated performers in the Midwest.
Ray has independently released two CDs. Heartbeat, which sold out in 18 short months, and SoundCheck, his current work that is nearly sold out as well, and is being played on stations across the country, as well as being featured on BET's Jazz Discoveries. His latest CD is entitled "Christmas by Candlelight."
The energy, the passion, and of course the sound of Ray Silkman's soul pouring through his saxophone is hypnotic to say the least. It is no surprise that Chicago Radio station V103 is quoted as saying" We have never seen a reaction to a jazz song that we've played on V103 like the one that we got from Ray Silkman's So Saxual. Every time we play the song the phones light up".
Silkman has performed standing room only concerts for his thousands of fans at Detroit Opera House, The Elkhart Jazz Festival, Grand Rapids Jazz and Blues Festival, Taste of Chicago, The Vic Theater Chicago, The Park West Theater Chicago, The United Center, Rosemont Convention Center, Milwaukee's Amphitheater, Poplar Creek Amphitheater, Chicago's Field Museum, and countless private and public events throughout the country. Long lines of eagerly waiting fans, anticipating an autograph and/or picture with this phenomenal artist have followed each performance.
Like so many, Silkman's beginning was challenging, being robbed and homeless on the streets of Chicago for many months after arriving there, he used the lessons of hard work, determination and faith that his mother instilled in him to overcome adversity and hard times. Believing that a man's gift will make room for him, he persevered and is now living his dream.
