More than 2,000 steppers to scale Chicago's 2nd tallest building to raise funds for Children's Memorial hospital
More than 2,000 people will reach new heights as they climb 1,616 stairs at the Aon Center, Chicago's second tallest building. Participants include families, Children's Memorial patients, athletes, police officers and firefighters in full fire gear. Ten-year-old Children's Memorial patient Michael McCarthy, who walks with the aid of lower limb prostheses, will serve as the patient champion and will officially kick off the race.
What: The 10th Annual Kohl's Step Up for Kids stair climb to the top of the Aon Center will benefit the fundraising efforts of K.I.D.S.S. for Kids, an affiliated organization of Children's Memorial Hospital, and the hospital's Family Services department.

200 East RandolphMedia interviews are available in the Mid-America Club, 80th floor panoramic views of the city as well as steppers enter finish area. Media may also follow steppers at the start.
Free parking on streets has been arranged with the CPD on upper levels of Randolph, Stetson and Columbus, excluding the south side of Randolph from Michigan to Columbus; media can unload in the turnaround
Why: The event is expected to raise $350,000 for the hospital's Family Services department. Many of the steppers are honoring loved ones who have been cared for at the hospital or who have been patients themselves. Interviews are available with steppers as they finish the climb.
As a not-for-profit organization, Children's Memorial relies on philanthropy to help provide care to more than 103,000 patients and their families every year.
