August 21, 2007 (WLS) -- One of Chicago's most spirited festivals kicks off Saturday, August 25 -26 in Grant Park. Viva Chicago Latin Music Festival, presented Best Buy, features dozens of superstars performing the distinctive types of Latin music like cumbia, reggaeton, salsa, merengue, tango, bachata, banda and Spanish Pop!
The Viva Chicago Latin Music Festival is considered one of the largest events of its kind in the Midwest and the festival entertains both residents and visitors alike. Chicago is home to Hispanics from around the globe including the Americas and the Caribbean. Viva celebrates this diverse group of people through music, food, dance, art, and last year 170,000 people attended the festival. The music is a blend of African, Spanish, Indian and Caribbean cultures. World renowned artists Moenia, Belinda, Rakim y Ken-Y, Fonseca, and Mike Roman and the Tellstars featuring Jose Feliciano will perform.
In addition to great music, traditional food items are available at booths throughout the festival. Local and international merchants are on hand vending authentic articles of Hispanic origins as well as articles from the indigenous people of the Americas including artistic tapestries. Other items include wool clothing for children and adults, artwork, jewelry and paintings. Meet some of Chicago's very own musicians at the Side Stage sponsor by Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep. Daily festival hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Children of all ages can participate at The Kid's Zone sponsored by ComEd, an Exelon Company. ComEd is dedicated to the safety and well being of all its customers, and is enthusiastic about the promise of their program "Safety Club for Kids." The club teaches children about electricity and electrical safety with the help of Louie the Lighting Bug and the Safety Rangers. Children can also jump around in the jumping jack -- all free of charge. For more information, visit the ComEd booth on site at Viva
Free valet parking for bikes is available at all lakefront music festivals. Chase Bike Valet will be located at the northwest corner of Lake Shore Drive and Monroe.
