The Magnificent Mile Comes Alive for Leap Day

Thursday, February 28, 2008

Every four years we're lucky enough to be given an extra day, but most people let it pass without noticing it. This year, the Greater North Michigan Avenue Association would like everyone to stop and smell the roses - and champagne! The TOAST on The Magnificent Mile will conclude this Leap Day with a flourish of activities.

After taking the free Magnificent Mile trolley and before seeing the evening's fireworks display, guests can hit the best retailers to sample champagne kisses at the Hershey's Store or get a free hand massage and champagne-themed gift bag at Sephora. (Only the first 100 guests get a gift bag.) The Chicago Architecture Foundation is offering 20 percent off one regular stock item, and walking tour tickets at two for the price of one. Upscale clothing store MARLOWE will be giving shoppers a glass of champagne while they browse.

To dine in the luxury, Conrad Chicago will host "Effervescence," a champagne tasting, complemented with light fare, and The Lobby Lounge at Swisstel Chicago will host a champagne and cuisine pairing dinner. Swisstel Executive Chef Seargo has designed an array of culinary creations, paired with a Mot & Chandon champagne selection, and guests can pick and choose which of the delicious dishes they would like to purchase. To complement the meal, Angela Roman from The Signature Room will present Toast with Class, a history of champagne, how to select a champagne for any occasion and champagne tips and faux pas.

Leap Day will conclude with a bang - a fireworks display over the Chicago River, at Pioneer Court, at 6:30 p.m.

On Leap Day, they are offering an engagement package called "Take the Leap" where couples can propose. A chocolate ring box and champagne will be provided for couples who purchase the package.
