ABC7 Special: Go Green with ABC7
ABC 7 Chicago presents "Go Green With ABC 7" a half-hour special hosted by Jerry Taft and Tracy Butler on Saturday, July 26th at 6 p.m.
In an effort to raise "green awareness" ABC 7 presents GO GREEN WITH ABC 7, a half-hour special exploring some of the most eco-friendly businesses in the city while also looking at what Chicagoans can do to reduce their carbon footprint, Saturday, July 26th at 6:00 p.m. GO GREEN WITH ABC 7 is hosted by Tracy Butler and Jerry Taft.
ABC 7 is also tracking the local green scene with a weekly segment on the station's 5:00 p.m. newscast, "Live Green with ABC 7," reported by Hosea Sanders.
During the half-hour special, Taft and Butler discover how Chicago is getting in the swing of green from a close-up look at the eco-friendly clothing line created by a local designer and an organic food on-line delivery service to the Museum of Science and Industry's "Smart Home," hailed as Chicago's greenest home. In addition, the special will offer useful tips on how to go green that will help consumers save green.
One of the companies featured on GO GREEN WITH ABC 7 is "Fresh Picks," the healthy/organic food on-line delivery service based in Niles, Illinois. The goal for the husband and wife duo that started this company two years ago was to bridge the gap between local farmers and Chicagoland residents looking for a convenient way to get organic food. "Fresh Picks" does just that, specializing in organic and locally grown produce, meat and dairy.
"Green Exchange," located off I-90 in the old Cooper's lamp factory, will be the new home of Chicago's one stop shopping for everything green. From retail businesses and office space to a green café, this project currently under construction will be the country's largest to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification. Slated to open in Spring 2009 this building will house over 100 businesses.
"Earth Friendly Products" out of Winnetka, Illinois, specializes in the production of 60 chemical free household cleaners. Available in the US and internationally, these products consist of all natural substances like corn, coconut, citrus and other plants and herbs.
Chicago designer Lara Miller has created an eco-friendly line of clothing made from bamboo, soy, hemp, seaweed, just to name a few. Her designs are stylish yet friendly to the environment.
Evanston based "Healthy Green Goods" offers a wide variety of products from kids clothing, home flooring to toxic free mattresses.
Museum of Science & Industry's "Smart Home," hailed as Chicago's greenest home, gives consumers the ability to see first hand a variety of ways they can make their home more green.
ComEd's "Green Home Makeovers" showcases a home that was recently renovated to become more energy efficient.
