This year, make room for Taste because Taste is making room for you.
The 29th Annual Taste of Chicago will fill Grant Park June 26-July 5, 2009, but this time with a new layout that will make it easier to navigate to your favorite food booths. Taste also will have designated entrances as well (Monroe & Columbus; Jackson & Michigan; Congress & Michigan; and Balbo & Columbus.)
In addition to a line-up of restaurants that includes new entries such as Blue Bayou, Garrett's Popcorn Shops and Manny's Cafeteria and Delicatessen, Taste of Chicago will bring back many favorites, totaling 56 food booths. Taste continues to be a value: not only is it a free admission festival, but also each food booth will be offering two Taste of portions. A Taste of portion is a smaller serving for 2-4 tickets.
Opening up the Taste will allow attendees to easily find their favorite food or adventurously try something new. Food booths located along the main street of Taste (Columbus Drive) will now occupy the west curb lane; the number of booths has been slightly reduced to enhance the journey through the festival.
Taste of Chicago food and beverage tickets are sold in strips of 12 for only $8; advance purchase at a reduced rate with a Fresh Values Card is available at participating Dominick's locations beginning June 18-25, while supplies last.
In addition to offering two Taste of portions, each vendor will include one health conscious item. That, plus a walk from one end of Taste to the other and back again equals 1 ½ miles. There are interactive areas in both the Family Village for the youngsters and in Taste Sports! for all ages as well as the 17th Annual Race to Taste on Sunday, June 28. Visit www.chicagoracetotaste.us for more information.
Watching acclaimed chefs and foodies create their specialties is also calorie-free. On the all-new Buckingham Fountain Table, the Dominick's Cooking Corner presents a star-studded line-up including Emeril Lagasse on opening day at 4p.m. Following his recipe demonstration, the famed chef will sign copies of his latest book, Emeril at the Grill.
Throughout the ten days, the Dominick's Cooking Corner offers a vast array of chefs and notables in the kitchen including Lucinda Scala Quinn of PBS Everyday Food, Jackie Shen of Red Light, Dublin's Stuart O'Keeffe, WGN-TV's Ana Belaval, Jimmy Bannos Heaven on Seven as well as a triple bill with
Chef Hans of Trader Vic's that includes legendary radio star Steve Dahl and Super Bowl Champion Bear and current Bears analyst, Tom Thayer. There will be lots cooking in this kitchen.
