September 22, 2013 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- Karen and Greta Ramirez were 19 and 9 when their father, Heriberto Ramirez, killed their mom, Alicia, on Valentine's Day 2011 in their home near Des Plaines. The girls vowed to stick together -- but with no money and no legal immigration status, it was a tall order.
Yet, help came from all quarters.
Today, the sisters are a team, with Karen as Greta's legal guardian. "Nobody will ever replace my mom and I'm not trying to. I'm trying to do the same as she did for me," Karen says.
