Kentucky Derby-inspired recipes from South Branch Tavern & Grille in Chicago
- Bread Pudding
- 1 lb French style bread
- 3 1/4 cups milk
- 3 eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 cup pecans or walnuts
- 1/4 cup craisons
- Bourbon Sauce
Ingredients:
Procedure: Tear bread into medium pieces. Add sugar and cinnamon. Mix milk lightly beaten eggs and vanilla and add to bread mixture. Place half of mix into casserole dish and layer nuts and craisons. Top with the rest of the mix. Bake at 350° for 30 in or until lightly brown. Serve warm with Bourbon sauce
- Bourbon Sauce
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 6 Tbs butter, melted
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 Tbs Bourbon
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 Tbs white corn syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla
Ingredients:
Procedure:
In a sauce pan mix all ingredients. Bring to a boil for 1 minute. Serve warm.
TO PLATE: When all is ready, slice on piece of pudding and plate in center of plate. Add warm Bourbon sauce over bread pudding and serve with whipped cream.
