Monica Malpass meets up with Katie Couric

NEW YORK CITY - September 28, 2012 (WPVI) -- I met Katie Couric on the set of her hot new show in New York to talk about her new venture: A new hour-long talkshow at 3pm on 6abc. This is one host who can't wait to come to work!

"I'm really excited because&topics people care about."

On the date of my visit, Couric checked out "Modern Family" star Sofia Vergara's new clothing line for Kmart.

On other days she explores everything from women's heart problems to college hazing.

Katie's had huge national success for decades, but she still remembers her small-town roots growing up in Arlington, Virginia.

"I grew up in a very modest home with a hard-working dad and stay at home mom," Couric told me. "I think it shows if you have drive, focus and make sacrifices, you can achieve things you think you'd only dream about."

Katie's audiences get to ask her questions after the show so they really feel like they get to know her one-on-one.

It's that unique combination of small-town roots and big-city success that Philadelphia fans especially love. For that matter, Katie loves Philadelphia too! She covered presidential politics here for years, ate her share of cheesesteaks and loves the arts here.

Katie's fans love that she's branching out, something Couric tries to teach her daughters to do in their lives too.
