7 of 151: Kat Lewis, Mount Laurel, NJ: I was at the Base in Fort Dix, NJ, for the 2nd day of a 5 day Child Passenger Safety class. During our first break, around 9 am, I called my husband. He informed me that a plane had hit the WTC. The second plane hit during our conversation. There were many police, firefighters and EMT's from all over NJ in the class. Cell phones started ringing throughout our group. The base at Ft. Dix, which had been like a ghost town on Monday, seemed to come alive instantly, quickly looking like they were preparing for war. Word of the attacks spread quickly through our group. Many of the police, fire and EMT workers left immediately. Shortly they cancelled our class for the day. Concrete dividers, creating a serpantine lane, had already been set up, to protect the entrance of Ft. Dix.. Armed guards seemed to be everywhere. I felt scared, numb, anxious, and all I could think of was getting home to my husband and daughters to make sure they were ok. It was definately a day I will never forget!
