Suspect Arrested in School Bus Murder
NEWARK, Del. - May 2, 2007 (WPVI) -- Action News has learned that police have arrested the former boyfriend of the school bus driver found murdered early Wednesday morning.
26-year-old Jermease Ross of Newark was charged with the murder of 31-year-old Elizabeth Ware.
The mother of three children, was found dead on the bus along the eastbound shoulder of Route 273 at 6:48 this morning.
Another passing school driver first spotted the stranded bus. That driver, thinking the bus was broken down, called the Christina bus yard located less than a mile away.
It was when a technician arrived from the bus yard to help the driver of bus 610 that her body was discovered. Police say Ware had been stabbed and was still sitting in the driver's seat of her bus.
"We do not have reports of any other person being on the bus at this point. No one was here when the murder occurred," Corporal Jeffrey Whitmarsh of the Delaware State Police told reporters.
Fellow bus drivers tell Action News they think it is very difficult for anyone to force open a school bus door from the outside.
"She had to open the door. From what I'm seeing and what I'm looking at in the bus was we stand here now, she had to let them on," Anetta Logan, a bus driver, told Action News.
An employee of the nearby Plaxicon factory told The Wilmington News Journal she was getting out of her car at 6:40 a-m and saw a professionally dressed man wearing a polo shirt step calmly off the bus.
A friend and neighor of the victim, Andrea Yarrusso, told Action News that she feared for Ware's life. According to Yarrusso, Ware had just ended an abusive relationship with Ross, who is the father of her youngest child.
He showed up at police headquarters on Wednesday afternoon. He was questioned for several hours before charges were filed.
Police said Ross was also arrested on April 27, 2007 and charged with two counts of harassment against Ware.
