NORTH PHILADELPHIA - October 21, 2009 (WPVI) -- Police say a homeless man died inside the compactor section of a trash truck in North Philadelphia.
Investigators say the death appears to be an accident. Police say the homeless man was apparently sleeping in a dumpster that the trash truck emptied on a previous stop.
Medics first got a call at about 4:15 Wednesday morning, that a man was trapped inside the trash truck.
The truck was on the property of George Washington Carver High School, near the intersection of 17th and Norris streets. When rescue workers arrived they determined that the trapped man was dead in the section of the truck that crushes trash.
Rescue workers have removed the body from the truck.
