TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) - January 9, 2012 (WPVI) -- Police in Toms River may be looking for someone with lots and lots of quarters.
Authorities say someone stole 500 parking meters. The meters' overall value is $75,000 - when empty.
Police Chief Michael Mastronardy told the Asbury Park Press that sometime during the last three months, someone broke the padlock on a trailer at the Parking Authority offices in the Ocean County community and stole 500 used meters.
He says the theft went unnoticed for so long because the meters had been in storage.
