TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - November 1, 2006 -- Birth control won't work as a way to limit New Jersey's black bear population, according to a state study.
A study commissioned by the state Environmental Protection Department says it would be expensive and ineffective.
The study says it would cost about $1,000 per animal to capture and sterilize the bruins.
The report also says while birth control has worked on deer and wild horses, experts have never tried it on bears in the wild.
