FRANKLIN TWP., N.J. - January 30, 2007 (WPVI) -- Jack Ireland roamed his horse farm feeling enormous grief and seething with anger.
Late Saturday night someone with a bow and arrow came to his corral and killed Cutey, his prize rodeo horse.
He knows it was no accident because two arrows were fired. The first shaft missed and imbedded in the riding shed. The other hit Cutey from about 30 feet away, squarely in the lung-heart area..
"I used her in rodeos. I raised her from a baby. I broke her myself. She was a nice horse. My four-year-old daughter rode her," said Ireland.
Police Chief Mike Digiorgio said whoever did it knew what they were doing.
Some neighbors are appalled at this crime. One house is 10 feet from the shed were the errant arrow went.
"My children could have been outside," said Eileen Hertzog.
Both arrows have been recovered and are being examined by the state crime lab.
Police are looking at local people and experienced hunters who may have a grudge against Ireland.
There is also a $3,500 reward posted for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of Cutey's killer.
