New Jersey Woman Finds Angels In Eggplant

BLACKWOOD, N.J.- AUGUST 15, 2007 (WPVI) -- A woman in Camden County says she found images of three angels, inside a white eggplant.

Vincenza Martino works for Vinny's Deli in Blackwood.

She purchased the white eggplant earlier this week from a local produce vendor.

Martino says she sliced the eggplant into thin pieces, and towards the end she saw the angels formed out of seeds.

Martino had just watched an Action News broadcast and a story about the word God found in another eggplant in Delaware County, and that's when she decided to hang onto her own "divine" discovery.

"It's an angel come to you, to bring you signs", Martino said. "You try and put two and two together, and see what's going on here. I feel blessed to be here, and something like this happens. God is sending me a sign."

One customer even walked home with a piece of the eggplant. "I had a fellow come here today, and his wife is very sick in the hospital", Martino said. So, she gave the man a slice to give to his wife. The man cried as he left.

Vinny's Deli is adorned with pictures of Pope Benedict XVI, and past pontiffs. Martino says she works seven mornings a week, and can't make it to church. But she says the deli is like her holy place.

"God is here, like he's in the church," Martino said. "A lot of bad things happen in this country, and we have to believe, and pray. God is here to help to help everybody."

Martino didn't tell us what she plans to do with the eggplant, but she's clearly holding onto it for now.
