Spend some time with the Stooges

Monday, October 19, 2009

Spending an afternoon at a museum may not be a husband's favorite way to spend a Saturday, but take heart ladies!

Now, you can take your man to a museum that's guaranteed to hold his interest. After all, it's what held his interest every day after school when he should've been doing his homework!

It's the Stoogeum, a museum dedicated to the Three Stooges located in Blue Bell, Pa.

Complete with a "Faux Moe" greeter, it's an academic tribute to the trio's enduring appeal.

"There are studies that say only 40% of teenagers can name anyone on the Supreme Court, but 90% can name all three stooges. I think that's a shame, because shouldn't 100% be able to name the stooges?" said Stoogeum curator Gary Lassin.

It's part of the quest that las left uber-fan Lassin curating his massive collection of "Stoogabilia" for fans to enjoy. Exhibits range from video acrade games to Shemp's army discharge papers.

It's all in a setting that serves as the headquarters for the Three Stooges fan club.

"The idea here is to get new generations of fans," Lassin said.

Most fans of the Stooges are men. As Lassin put it, "The stooges weren't good looking guys, they had no steady job, the had lousy table manners, why would a woman like them?"

Other men at the museum agreed. "Women just don't know they exist," said one.

But, there were a handful representatives of the fairer sex who disagreed. "When I was supposed to be doing my homework in the 3rd grade, I was watching the Three Stooges," one woman said.

Parents have always been fretting over what their kids watch, worrying about their bad influences. Those are worries that the Stoogeum helps to alleviate, because adults today grew up with the Stooges.

And look how we turned out!
