READING, Pa. - April 24, 2009 (WPVI) -- Two-hundred, twenty-five consigners made the trip to the Reading Expo Center this weekm carting in some 16,000 items, including children's clothing, toys, and supplies.
And through Sunday, all of the those items are on sale at deeply discounted prices.
Sale oranizer Tracey Panase explains, "Consignors gather their items, and they tag them at home, so they set the selling price for the items."
They also decide whether they want the prices reduced as the sale continues and whether they want to take unsold items home at the end of the sale or have them donated to charity.
For Kristin Heilman, of Lenhartsville, Pa., the first-ever "Just Between Friends" sale in Reading was an opportunity to turn some of five-year-old Quinn's clutter into cash.
"I have never done a sale like this before, " she said. Consigners get 65% of the sale prices. If they volunteer to help at the sale, their take is 70%.
Kimberly Umbenhauer, a mother of five from Orwigsburg, Pa., is hoping to take advantage of prices 50 to 90% off retail.
The clothing selection included an adorable Ralph Lauren dress for $7. An Eagles onsie with matching booties was $5. And several brand-new girls' bathing suits from Nordstrom's were priced at $9 each.
But there's much more to the sale than clothes. From Boppies for $10, to a car-seat jogging stroller for $60, to a hand-crocheted baby blanket for $20, the sale has just about anything kids or parents could want to buy.
Admission to the sale is $3.
