UNIVERSITY CITY - June 5, 2009 (WPVI) -- The Univeristy of Pennsylvania's Class of 2009 is gone from campus, but they left A LOT of stuff behind.
"We have a lot of international students, and students who have to travel cross-county, so they really can't take all this stuff with them when they leave campus," explains Barbara Lea-Kruger, Director of Communications for the Unversity's Business Services.
The students' items, along with furniture that the University is replacing during renovations, are all going on sale at the University's Class of 1923 Ice Rink (3130 Walnut Street) this weekend.
The sale runs from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, and 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 7. Admission is $5 from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. Saturday. After that it's free. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to charity."Everything is really priced to go, to help people in the community get low-cost goods and to help the United Way," Lea-Kruger explains.
The ice rink inventory is staggering. From coffee pots, to microwaves, to pots and pans, to printers, to silverware. There are storage drawers, furniture, desk chairs, and lamps. Plus books, of course, and lots of clothes and shoes.
We found a pair of barely worn patent-leather Aldo pumps that will sell for $2 and adorable, like new, rain boots from Talbots for $4.
Need a winter jacket? There are dozens, from names like Nike, Calvin Klein and Northface. They're just $10 each.
