Take Summer clothes into Fall for less

Monday, August 16, 2010

If you think resale shops are just for frumpy old ladies, you haven't checked out The Cedar Chest in Media, Pa. Shawnee Johnson's nine-year-old boutique is definitely fashion-forward.

"We sell anything from trendy to high-end," Johnson says. "It's about feminine, fashionable fun, and you don't have to feel guilty here, because everything is very reasonable."

And Johnson says re-sale stores are great places to shop as you transition your Summer wardrobe into Fall.

"We can take your favorite dress and take it right into Fall with just a few pieces that you already have in your closet. Or you can just come here and buy those few pieces and not spend a lot of money," she explains.

Aubrey, who works at the Cedar Chest, models an example.

She wears a $40 J. Crew trench coat over a floral bustier sundress from Victoria's Secret that The Cedar Chest sells for $30. She's added a chocolate brown scarf ($8) and tights ($4), along with a hat ($14 )for a Fall look.

"Tights are great," Johnson says. "You can even take your summer shoes into fall with a pair of tights. Those open-toed shoes -- just leave 'em out."

For work, Johnson adds a $15 Gap blazer to a $24 J. Crew sundress and pulls the look together with a color-coordinated necklace.

A $14 denim jacket transitions an 18-dollar tropical print dress. And an $8 ruffled blouse over a $30 maxi-dress from Anthropologie creates a great look for a night out on the town.

As an added bonus, all the add-on pieces can be worn with other pieces in your fall wardrobe -- giving you even more bang for your re-sale buck.
