OLD CITY - March 26, 2012 (WPVI) -- Retrospect Vintage doesn't really stand out among the trendy shops on South Street. But it is a vintage store with a difference.
Jason Silen of Retrospect explains, "We offer amazing one-of-a-kind and vintage pieces, select designers. But the money you spend here goes back to a non-profit. We're operated by Goodwill of Southern New Jersey."
A Retrospect buyer picks through everything donated to Goodwill's area thrift shops, looking for vintage clothing and accessories that are trendy once again. Those items end up here.
And assistant manager Emily Patz loves working with customers to find unique looks that work for them.
Patz says, "It's really exciting to see designers take vintage silhouettes or vintage patterns and give them new life and put them out now for people to enjoy."
One of the big looks making a comeback: the early 1960s dresses like those featured on the show Mad Men. The store has many dresses from that era, priced for under $60.
There are also plenty of sundresses. And men's items, including LaCoste sweaters for $35, plaid shirts for $18 and varsity jackets for $58.
Plus, on March 31, 2012, from noon until 10:00 p.m. the store will having a prom dress event, when all dresses in the store will be 30% off their already-low prices.
Patz warns it's important to try vintage items on, because sizes have changed over time, but she adds that with prices so low, alterations always an option.
