Saving with 6abc: Group funding through CrowdTilt

April 24, 2012 (WPVI) -- Here's how you can get everyone to pay up when you're buying a gift or going in on a group dinner or trip.

You can pool money online. It's very handy for anybody who usually ends up footing most of the bill themselves.

Sometimes, if you're out to dinner with a lot of people, planning a group trip, or going in on a gift with a bunch of friends or family members, getting everyone to pay can be a pain. That's where CrowdTilt may come in handy.

Let's say you're getting a group of people together to buy a present for a friend. Everything's going well until it's time to collect money for it.

Using CrowdTilt can make it pretty easy.

Just start a campaign by setting a goal amount and a brief description of what you're raising money for. Then share the news with your friends by tweeting, posting on Facebook, or emailing.

Once the fundraising goal is reached, thereby tilting the campaign, then and only then is everyone's credit card charged and you receive the funds!

If the campaign doesn't tilt - no one's charged a cent.

According to a video posted on the company's website: "No more jumping through hoops to find out who hasn't paid. No more funneling of money for something that doesn't happen, and you can use it for just about anything."

Starting a campaign on CrowdTilt is free, but after that there are some fees. Campaign owners pay of 2.5% fee if their campaign tilts. Contributors pay a credit card processing fee of 2.5%.
