Math is a ball!

Sunday, January 27, 2008

Actually, more like a thousand of them if you attend Bob Swaim's lectures.

The former teacher and theatrical mathematician put on a presentation at the Leonardo da Vinci Science Center in Allentown using a thousand old golf balls to illustrate concepts involving polyhedrons and platonic solids.

Ordinarily this is the kind of thing that can bore little kids silly, but in the finale, the "implosion" of a pyramid formed using the balls sending them streaming all over the floor is always a big hit with the rug-rat crowd, if not the janitor who has to clean up.

For more info, contact Bob Swaim at 610.349.2481 or Dennis Zehner at the DaVinci Science Center at 484-664-1002 ext. 112 or click here
