That's exactly what Temple University Engineering students had to do as part of their class project.
Of course these were kites that they had to design and build themselves under some very specific limitations, utilizing the kind of engineering techniques and insights that will later come in handy when they have to design a lunar colony, a teleportation chamber, or a ketchup bottle that doesn't get all crusty at the top.
