Boning up on reading

Monday, May 05, 2008

The Northampton free library has initiated a "reading to dogs" program.

It's not that Bucks County canines need literary tutoring, but the program is aimed at making grade schoolers feel more comfortable with reading aloud.

By reading to a non-judgmental audience like pooches from Therapy Dogs International, The kids are able to enhance their reading skills and their self confidence in a fun setting.

The program is open to anyone every Wednesday afternoon from 4pm to 6pm and kids can read whatever they choose to their four legged listeners, or choose from a recommended reading list that includes: The Hound of the Baskervilles, Tail of Two Cities, The Scarlet Setter, Puppy Longstocking, Winnie the Pooch, Muttamorphisis, Hairy Potter, The Picture of Doberman Gray, The Wind in the Kennels and many others.

For more information, contact Barbara Lewis at the Northampton Township Free Library, 25 Upper Holland Rd, Richboro, PA 18954 phone: 215-357-3050.
