Tuned In to Cowmuddy

November 17, 2007 (WPVI) -- Cowmuddy is the creation of front man and lead singer Michael McShane. The rest of the band is self described as a rotation of players and collaborators. Among them are Michael's brother, Brian McShane, and Amos Lee. Their sound is an eclectic mixture of rock, folk, and country musical elements, to name a few.

As well as being an accomplished lyricist, Michael McShane has been known to be a great showman. During a performance at a private house concert, he dazzled the audience by climbing up a trestle while playing his guitar and walking along the top of a narrow wall without missing a beat.

While working with an Irish carpenter he learned of a cow in Ireland named Cowmuddy. Michael decided to borrow this name for his band.

In our current social environment where "going green" is trendy, Michael McShane has been preaching the virtues of environmental awareness through his music for quite some time. Cowmuddy describes their mission as "to accentuate the importance of supporting local economies, especially when buying food. Also it is the hope that through the synthesis of music, food and color we may build a stronger sense of community among residents."

We caught up with Cowmuddy during a performance at The M Room, in Philadelphia.
