March 15, 2011 (WPVI) -- Internet rumors that creators of one of Japan's biggest pop culture icons was killed in the tsunami have been refuted.
A story making the rounds, mainly on the social networking site Twitter, was that Pokemon creator Satoshi Tajiri had been killed in the quake and resulting tsunami. However, Nintendo America, the U.S. arm of the company that produces video games based on Pokemon, posted a Tweet reading that "During the earthquake no one at Nintendo in Japan was injured and there was no apparent structural damage."
In addition, people who work at the company "Game Freak" of which Tajiri is CEO, have posted online comments that Tajiri is in fact alive.
