VOORHEES, N.J. - March 30, 2009 (WPVI) -- Officials in a school district in Camden County, New Jersey sent home a letter notifying parents that a student may have meningitis.
The letter went out Monday afternoon to families whose students attend Osage Elementary in Voorhees Township.
A letter also went out to students at Osage Middle School. The student has a sixth grade sibling that goes there.
Doctors have started treating the student.
But officials do not yet know if it is a case of meningitis at all. However, the principal of the school says she wants to make sure parents have all of the information every step of the way.If the student is confirmed to be meningitis, officials from the health department will come out to the school to determine if other students or staff may have been exposed.
One dose of the meningitis vaccine is recommended at age 11.
