PHILADELPHIA - January 3, 2013 (WPVI) -- More urgent care clinics are popping up in our area. They make going to the doctor a lot easier on a lot of families.
On New Year's Eve, Temple Health opened one at 11000 Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia.
The ReadyCare clinic offers 7-day-a-week care, including testing and x-rays, done by Temple doctors & nurses, and without the wait of going to an emergency department.
Dr. Rick Mankin, the CEO of Temple Physicians Inc., says, "We have the same walk-in access, but we can often treat them without an appointment and get them home within a half hour to an hour."
The clinic is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m., and Saturday, Sunday, and most holidays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The facility can handles, cuts, broken bones, sprains, fevers, and the wide variety of other non-emergency health situations that crop up daily.
The center accepts most health insurance plans.
Just 3 days after opening, and with virtually no advertising, the center was seeing about 30 patients a day, a rate that is comparable to most clinics after months in operation.
This is Temple's second urgent care clinic. The first opened at 2301 Allegheny Avenue in Port Richmond about 3 years ago, and is seeing 40 to 60 patients a day.
Temple plans to open other ReadyCare centers, with ones in Jenkintown and Ft. Washington open sometime in spring.
