More sleep for teens means lower weight
PHILADELPHIA, PA.; April 8, 2013 (WPVI) -- A new local study shows teenagers who get more sleep may have less trouble with their weight.
That's the bottom line from a study of 1-thousand Philadelphia students.
Researchers at Penn Medicine found increasing sleep from eight hours to ten hours could mean half-a-million fewer overweight teens in the United States.
And that's without increasing exercise or limiting screen time.
In younger children, a lack of sleep has already been tied to obesity later in childhood, as well diabetes and heart disease as an adult.
