Snow Brings Dangerous Conditions

Sunday, February 12, 2006

Philadelphia officials announced one person has been found dead inside a parking garage during the weekend snowstorm. Dealing with the snow is a problem for everyone, even the police and rescue personnel, as this damaged police vehicle from Willingboro shows.

Officials, during a news conference just after 10am, announced the man was discovered about 4 hours earlier.

They say the victim was a man, between 40 and 50 years old. He was found in parking garage on North 11th Street. They say he did not have any identification.

Officials are still determining exactly what caused his death, but at this point they are treating it as a case of exposure.

The officer lost control of his police vehicle in the snowstorm and struck a utility pole shortly after midnight trapping the officer inside.

Firefighters and medics worked for over an hour to free the officer. Medics took the officer to a hospital in Camden.
