Police: Pa. Woman Killed for Refusing to Cook

Tuesday, April 18, 2006

A woman allegedly struck with a microwave oven and stomped for refusing to prepare a meal for her boyfriend died of blunt-force injuries to her chest, a coroner said.

Fayette County Coroner Dr. Phillip Reilly also said Monday that Mary McCann, 54, died of blunt-force injuries to her chest and abdomen that caused fractured ribs, lung contusions and a lacerated liver.

McCann's boyfriend, Walter S. Fordyce, 58, of Uniontown, has been charged with homicide and other counts. Fordyce, who remained jailed without bond, has pleaded innocent to the charges.

Police accused Fordyce of knocking down McCann and throwing the microwave onto her before stomping her last Thursday when she refused to heat up two sandwiches for him.

McCann also had a blood-alcohol content of 0.338 percent, far above the state's legal limit of 0.08 percent for driving, Reilly said.
